“Amore Mio” : Alysson Paradis and Élodie Bouchez sisters in a warm, cheerful and sunny movie

If brothers’ stories are not rare, it is less the case for sisters, subject of Guillaume Gouix’ first feature film.

Contrary to what the title suggests, Amore Mio, in theaters Wednesday, February 1, is not a romance. Guillaume Gouix signs his first feature film about the reunion of two sisters in a road movie to Italy. Lost from sight, they go back in time to better find themselves in the present, adults.

Solar
Margaux (Élodie Bouchez) comes to pick up her sister Lola (Alysson Paradis) who has just lost her partner, to go to his funeral. Lola refuses to go and asks Margaux to head south with her young son to Italy. On the road, they rediscover each other and renew their complicity.

A solar image illuminates this return to childhood. This light is found in the exchanges between the two women, Lola accompanied by her son, and Margaux more independent woman. If the alchemy of Amore Mio takes, it is largely due to the duo Alysson Paradis-Elodie Bouchez that Guillaume Gouix had the good idea to bring together. Two actresses who are demanding in their choice of films, often in supporting roles, and who here are in every shot, in front of a loving camera.

From mourning to resilience
Amore Mio begins as a film about mourning, then rises to heaven. Guillaume Gouix, screenwriter, goes from darkness to light. The constant humor becomes gaiety, a happiness of being together, stemming from childhood, where natural connivances between Margaux and Lola take root. After a while, the spectator becomes an accomplice.

The flight from the grey Parisian sky to the sunny south reflects the flight from mourning to resilience. Guillaume Gouix tactfully films a joyful reunion full of twists and turns and delightful dialogues. Amore Mio takes a diagonal of time where the past emerges in the present to build the future. A future personified by Lola’s child, anchored in this solar reunion.
