Coleraine FC has announced a new partnership with Social Football, giving men aged 55 and over the chance to play regular football in a friendly, relaxed and welcoming environment.

Sessions take place every Thursday from 10am to 11am at the Coleraine University Sports Hall. They were launched just before the COVID-19 pandemic and offer participants the chance to stay active, enjoy playing football and build new social connections.

Players of all abilities are welcome, whether they are returning to football after many years or simply looking for a fun way to keep active and meet others. The focus is on participation, enjoyment and community. After each session, participants can stay for tea, coffee, buns and a chat.

Peter Morrow, organiser of Social Football, said: “The idea behind Social Football is to bring men together.

“Men as we all know don’t talk to each other and don’t discuss things, so from that perspective it has worked quite well.

“There’s a lot of nonsense talked, but again, they get a laugh from it.

“It’s a great social occasion for the guys and I know they look forward to it every week.”

David McDaid, head of community football at Coleraine FC, added: “I think it’s brilliant that the club is branching out into the community for initiatives like this.

“I’ve come down and met the guys and they’ve been running this for a long, long time.
