The Northeastern men’s soccer team (1-1, 0-0 CAA) fell 1-0 to the Stonehill College Skyhawks (2-0, 0-0 Northeast Conference) on the road Aug. 23.

Northeastern controlled the opening 42 minutes, taking six shots to Stonehill’s three, but could not score. Skyhawks sophomore goalkeeper Felix van der Hagen made four saves in the first half to keep the Huskies off the board.

With three seconds left in the half, Stonehill found what would be the winning goal. Sophomore midfielder Griffith Brubaker took possession in the center circle and played a perfectly lobbed pass to freshman forward Killian Doherty, who took a touch around his defender before firing his shot into the left side of the goal.

The second half was defined by frequent substitutions from both teams and further offensive chances for the Huskies. Van der Hagen stopped three more attempts, and Northeastern again could not get the ball past him.

Neither team scored after the break, so the game ended 1-0. Northeastern will look to bounce back against cross-town rival Boston University Terriers (0-1, 0-0 Patriot League) in its home opener Aug. 28.
