Work is underway on a new permanent home ground for Stapleford Cricket Club, a landmark moment in the club's history. The move will secure the club's long-term future and provide a permanent base where players can take to the crease, young cricketers can develop their skills, and the local community can enjoy the game for years to come.
As part of the agreed relocation plan, the club moved from its current home at Hickings Lane Recreation Ground to a temporary ground, making way for the Stapleford Community Pavilion. A new permanent site has been purchased for the club by Broxtowe Borough Council through the government's £21.1 million Stapleford Towns Fund.
The Towns Fund team, Stapleford Cricket Club, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Trent Bridge Community Trust worked together to develop plans for the new ground on land near Pit Lane, which were approved in January 2026.
The ground development work now underway follows extensive flood alleviation work carried out in coordination with the local lead flood authority. The work is due to be completed in October and, weather permitting, the ground could be ready for play by summer 2027.
Ian Jowett, Chair of Stapleford Towns Fund Board, said, "Supporting local sport and helping connect people with activities that are good for their health and wellbeing has always been central to the Towns Fund investment. We're delighted that work is now underway and that Stapleford Cricket Club can look forward to a ground they can truly call their own."
Tim Lewis from Stapleford Cricket Club, said, "We at Stapleford Cricket Club are excited to see the ground moving forward. Even from a few weeks ago, you can see the massive difference that the team here have made to the area. This has given us extra impetus to progress the club, and we will be looking at ways we can do this with the support of the people of Stapleford, Trowell and the wider Broxtowe area."
Joe Fish, Cricket Development Manager at Trent Bridge Community Trust, said, "We are thrilled for the members of Stapleford Cricket Club and the surrounding communities that this exciting new facility is starting to take shape, and we look forward to supporting the club in providing a growing cricketing offer on site for years to come."
