Leeds United have announced the signing of defender Melvin Bard from French club OGC Nice. The left-back joins on loan with an option to make the move permanent, becoming the club's sixth summer signing.
Bard came through the youth ranks at Lyon and made his senior debut in a 4-0 win over Nîmes in 2019 after playing for the B team. The following campaign he featured 18 more times for Lyon, which led to Nice signing him in 2021.
In his first season at the Allianz Riviera, Bard made 37 appearances in all competitions and scored twice, helping Nice finish fifth and reach the Coupe de France final. That secured a place in the Europa Conference League, where Bard played eight times as Nice reached the quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old remained a regular as Nice competed at the top of French football, adding 11 Europa League outings to his experience. Away from club football, Bard represented France at youth levels and was selected for the Olympic team at the 2021 Tokyo Games, where he played twice.
Bard is Leeds' sixth signing of an exciting summer, and the club said everyone at Leeds United would like to welcome him to the club.
