Manchester United are reported to have secured a deal to sign Liverpool teenager Isaac Konde. The 16-year-old has completed the formal steps ahead of his move to Old Trafford, according to reports.
Taking young talent from a rival has become more common in recent years, and the Red Devils have secured a deal for Konde, who has made six appearances for Liverpool this season in the Under-18s Premier League, with one assist.
Konde mainly plays off the left flank in the final third, but is equally effective on the right wing. He came through Liverpool's academy, but will now move to their north west rivals.
Liverpool's biggest academy success of the last decade was Trent Alexander-Arnold, but he left last summer for Real Madrid. They now have players like Rio Ngumoha and Conor Bradley in their squad.
United have a long history of giving youth a chance, but as they look to become a force again, they have spent large sums on ready-made first-team quality. Kobbie Mainoo has become a regular, but even he is fighting for minutes.
In pre-season, Michael Carrick gave minutes to several of the club's teenage stars, many of whom will hope to progress this season. Shea Lacey and Jack Fletcher both featured and were used last term.
United have seen several youth team departures in recent weeks, with champions Arsenal confirming the permanent signings of Habeeb Ogunneye and James Scanlon during the summer.
The Red Devils have also profited in the past. Ayden Heaven, formerly of Arsenal, is now in their first-team picture. The defender had already debuted for Arsenal before moving to Old Trafford as an 18-year-old, with United paying a compensation fee.
They also signed Chido Obi, then 16, after he turned down an Arsenal extension to move to Manchester. His progress has since stalled, and he went out on loan late in the summer transfer window.
