USC Upstate men's soccer led 1-0 at halftime on Saturday afternoon, but College of Charleston scored twice in the second half to take a 2-1 win at County University Soccer Stadium. The Spartans fell to 2-5-0, while Charleston improved to 4-1-1.
Upstate were the more aggressive side in the first half, taking 10 shots to Charleston's five. Oscar Kelly led the Spartans' attack, with several early attempts as Upstate kept up the pressure. The pressure paid off in the 33rd minute when Tolu Fabamifobee, who had come off the bench, set up Kelly for the opening goal at 32:42. It was Kelly's first goal of the season, with Fabamifobee credited with the assist, giving Upstate a 1-0 lead. Just before halftime, Jaami Qureshi forced a save from Charleston goalkeeper Marten Brink with a shot on target in the 45th minute. Upstate went into the break up 1-0, having outshot the Cougars 10-5.
Charleston changed the game after the restart. Arnau Olle equalised at 65:51 to make it 1-1. Less than eight minutes later, Matt Lenert scored at 73:05, a goal that proved to be the winner. Upstate pushed for an equaliser late on, with Kelly having another attempt in the 79th minute, but they could not find the net. Kelly was the Spartans' most dangerous player, finishing with a game-high seven shots and the team's only goal. Qureshi had the other shot on target.
Despite the loss, Upstate had 12 shots to Charleston's 13 and committed five fouls to the Cougars' nine. The Spartans put two efforts on target and earned two corners, while goalkeeper Jarrett Wuerslin made two saves in the full 90 minutes.
