Chelsea fans have been sharing the same reaction after Clearlake Capital completed its takeover of the club on Wednesday night.
Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their stakes to majority owner Clearlake, which already held 62.5% of the club before buying out the pair, who together owned more than 25% of shares. The global investment firm, run jointly by Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano, partnered with Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss to finish the takeover. Wyss, who already held 12.8% equity, will remain an "important stakeholder and partner in the ownership group". Boehly has also stepped down as Chelsea chairman, ending his four-year association with the club.
Fans took to social media after the news broke. One fan on X, formerly Twitter, said: "We want to see action now. The summer transfers are okay but not good enough to win a league." Another wrote: "A public statement about winning major trophies that can be held accountable if their actions don't follow their words."
Boehly expressed gratitude for his time at Chelsea, saying: "It has been an honour to serve as Chairman of Chelsea Football Club." He added: "I would like to thank the many who helped secure a bright future for the club, including the English Premier League, the coaches and players, the talented leadership and staff at Chelsea, and the legions of dedicated fans." He also said: "I have valued my partnership with Clearlake and the wider ownership group, and the collective decisions and investment we have made to support the immediate and long-term success of the club. I am confident that Chelsea is well positioned for continued success under Clearlake's leadership."
