The Tennent’s Sixes are coming back, and Kilmarnock will be part of the return of the nostalgic event.
The iconic Scottish football tournament from the 1980s and 1990s will make its comeback this autumn at Braehead Arena, with the official backing of the SPFL.
All 12 William Hill Premiership clubs have signed up for a legends version of the small-sided competition. Former stars will wear the official club kits from the current season.
The SPFL Tennent’s Sixes will take place on the weekend of October 3 and 4 at Braehead Arena, with all matches shown live on Premier Sports.
Kilmarnock will play Celtic, Rangers and St Mirren on the first day of the event. The club’s team lineup will be confirmed at a later date.
The original Tennent’s Sixes ran for nine years, from 1984 until 1993, and captured the imagination of a generation of Scottish football fans. Partick Thistle were the last winners of the trophy. The SPFL and Braehead Arena, as joint organisers, have worked quietly for months to create a family experience that blends nostalgia with a modern twist.
Saturday’s group stage will feature three regionalised groups of four teams. The winner and runner-up from each group will advance to the knockout stages, along with the two best third-placed sides.
Every game will have a winner, with a bonus point awarded for a penalty shootout win if a match ends in a draw. The sin bin is also set to return, and organisers hope it will appeal to football fans and families alike.

“There are many unofficial Masters events but only one SPFL Tennent’s Sixes: the original and best and one we are proud to put our name to, with the support and involvement of all 12 William Hill Premiership clubs.”
