Scotland levelled their one-day international series with the Netherlands at 1-1 after a nine-wicket victory in a rain-affected match in Stirling. Sarah Bryce, captaining in the absence of her sister Kathyrn, made an unbeaten 70 as the hosts chased down a target of 130 in 16.2 overs, just over half of the 32 overs available. The match had originally been scheduled for Sunday but was postponed because of weather.
The Netherlands had won the first game by 58 runs in Glasgow on Friday, but this time they were on the receiving end of another one-sided contest. Darcy Carter made an early breakthrough, removing openers Phebe Molkenboer and Sanya Khurana, who had combined for more than 150 in last week's encounter. Abtaha Maqsood then took two quick wickets to leave the visitors at 39-4. Maqsood struck again later, but Babette de Leede made 58 before being run out, and Caroline de Lange added 20 as the Netherlands finished on 129-9.
Scotland lost Maryam Faisal after four balls, but Carter, who finished 33 not out, and Bryce ensured a comprehensive win. Bryce, who also took two catches, sealed the match with her 11th four. The Dutch bowlers sent down 17 wides in 16 overs.
Despite the defeat, the visitors have reason for celebration: the completed match was enough to regain their ODI ranking and avoid a significant drop in funding.
The teams meet again on Tuesday at the same venue to decide the series.
