Essex Cricket has announced the shortlist for August's Player of the Month for the men's and women's teams.
August was a busy month for the club. Players scored many half-centuries, centuries and took plenty of wickets. The women's team reached their first ever Finals Day in the Vitality T20 Women's County Cup, while the men's team competed in the second half of the Metro Bank One Day Cup.

Matt Critchley is the men's leading run scorer for August. The all-rounder made 347 runs in six matches, averaging 57.83. He started the month with an unbeaten 102, then scored 50 and 94 in the four-day match against Somerset. With the ball, he took one wicket, an LBW, and was involved in five catches.
Dean Elgar produced several strong batting performances. He scored a half-century in the second innings at Taunton, then added a century against Surrey. He made 113 runs off 191 balls, including 15 boundaries.
Simon Harmer took 10 wickets across eight innings. His best figures came against Surrey, where he claimed 3-93 from 38 overs with an economy rate of 2.42. Overall, he bowled 111.3 overs at an economy of 5.55.
Noah Thain continued his strong form in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. The 21-year-old scored three consecutive half-centuries, with 75, 76 and 76 in the first matches of the month. He hit 37 boundaries across six innings and took a catch to dismiss Worcestershire Rapids captain Jake Libby.
Jodi Grewcock had another strong month. In three matches, the all-rounder scored 149 runs from 145 balls, including 19 boundaries. She bowled at an economy of 3.94 across two innings and took three wickets, two caught and one caught behind. She also took a catch to dismiss Mabel Reid of Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women.
Sophia Smale impressed with bat and ball. She started the month with 83 runs off 101 balls against Somerset, her first half-century of the season. She was involved in three wickets across three games, including bowling May Drinkell for seven and two run outs.
Grace Scrivens led her team to the Vitality T20 Women's County Cup Finals Day. She scored 51 not out off 56 balls in the quarter-final against Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women, including six fours. She also bowled 7.3 overs, conceding 60 runs.
