Aberdeen could face disciplinary action after some of their supporters invaded the pitch at Rugby Park following the team's Premier Sports Cup win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.
Jack Milne scored the winning penalty to seal a 3-1 shootout victory after the sides had finished 1-1 at the end of extra time. Aberdeen, known as the Dons, will now face Rangers in next month's semi-final at Hampden Park.
Tournament organisers, the Scottish Professional Football League, will investigate the post-match incident in East Ayrshire. They will also ask the Pittodrie club to explain the use of pyrotechnics during the quarter-final.
The SPFL cut Rangers and Celtic's ticket allocation for Hampden after widespread use of flares disrupted League Cup semi-finals last season.
The SPFL and Scottish FA are also looking at ways to get tough on unacceptable conduct in Scottish football.
Both Old Firm clubs have been ordered to play their next home matches in the Scottish Cup behind closed doors after trouble during and after a quarter-final tie at Ibrox in March.
